Michigan has no independent-practice pathway for NPs, CNMs, CNSs, or PAs — specialty certification alone never grants autonomous practice, and delegated authority is renewable/revocable rather than a one-time threshold. CRNAs may deliver anesthesia care independently within the perioperative period but must still maintain a collaborating physician/dentist/podiatrist relationship. A PA-only PLLC has been prohibited since 2010.
Esthetician
Licensed estheticians (MCL 339.1201 et seq., Occupational Code Article 12) practice independently within their scope: skin care services and, since P.A. 160 of 2024 (H.B. 5684, eff. March 20, 2025), dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, lash extensions and brow lamination. No physician involvement is required. Whether laser or IPL hair removal falls inside the expanded scope is unsettled given how recently it was broadened.
